No way that's "Lady be Good". All the pics show the entire aft fuse of LBG to be twisted out of alignment with the rest of the fuselage and both vertical fins are still attached. If the pic in this post is LBG then that means somebody has repositioned the aft fuse so that it is back in proper alignment while also removing the port vertical. Either that or the rear fuse was twisted away after this photo was taken and somebody then re-attached the port vertical!


PS - Ok, so upon further reading it appears as though my first scenario above is the correct one. At some point the aft fuse was drug back into approximate position and the port vertical fin was ripped from the airframe. Seems like a lot of work for little pay off but hey...

Sorry, I don't see the point in arguing whether the B-24 is the Lady be Good, as it has been identified, or as 'a previously unknown example', found by RAF navigators at the location of the Lady. They didn't 'happen' to fly over the B-24, they went to the known location of the Lady.

There are times when our amateur photo interpretation has a role to play in establishing further details or correcting erroneous assumptions; the data on this means this is not one of those cases. (Particularly when the evidence isn't being assessed in its entirety.) Personally, an element of that is the trust of the sources provided, which is good enough for me - I'm sorry I haven't given chapter and verse on that, but it's not a priority for me over other stuff at the moment.

PS: I have checked, because I find such things more interesting - in all mainstream versions of English, the past tense of 'drag' is 'dragged'; 'drug' is a completely different word we are all familiar with in another context. As English is a used-developed tool, maybe this thread's multiple uses of drug will be a step in the change of meaning? :wink:

Just teasing a bit. The possible return of The Lady is one of those subjects that comes up on a regular basis. Most folks here agree that she should come home to the U.S. Now whether she should be preserved or used at the basis of a restoration has been energetically debated.

That Youtube tribute video was really spooky. Most of the photos I'd seen before, but not the ones of the crew remains. I'm kind of surprised those were even made public.
