F4U Folks:

Id as a F-6 Hellcat on a wwww/site somewhere at the old Miami airport c. 1960s.
Does anyone remembers this particular aircraft in the area?? other angles??

I see an AT-6/SNJ and what appears to be a TBM Avenger. Where is the F6 or Corsair?

Looking at the cars in the picture, I'd peg that picture as having been taking anywhere from the mid 70's to the early 80's. The red Camaro is a mid 70's model.

That sure looks like a Hellcat. Maybe Kermit's??

I think there is a WIXer who is the son of the shop owner and grew up in Corrosion Corner in FL. Might be wrong but I think today he was restoring a T-6.
IIRC he started posting a few years back. Maybe the F6F was inside the hangar.

Maybe considered nit-picking, but a Hellcat is an F6F, not an F-6 or F6. An F-6 is either a photo Mustang or post '62 F4D (not an F-4D either) & an F6 is a ?????.

Looks like a Hellcat to me as well.

Compared to the SNJ/T-6, it looks too big to be a F-6F. I think it's a TBM.

I think the Camaro is a 75-76. Most, if not all post 76s had a plastic bumper.

I figure if you wanted my opinion on items unrelated to this forum, you'd ask for it.

I can't actually see the pic at the moment (blasted Net Nanny at work!), but I recall a Hellcat with the wings folded, sitting alongside a shed or hangar right at the western end of Miami's Cockroach Corner when I first visited in early 1984. The aircraft is now with Kermit Weekes.

Don't remember any cars; the only Connie left by then was "Clipper Dick" which I think was used by fire crews for practice out in the middle of the airport.

I took that photo in the late 70's it is a F6F Hellcat I could get only one shot as I was parked on the road when taking it. I think it was owned by a Mr. Robinson at the time it is now owned by Kermit Weeks and is at his Fantasy of Flight Museum.

The T-6 was still there into the early 90's. Mike Jones should know more if he sees this.

I remember the Corsair and a bunch more.

I grew up in Miami, in the 50s - 70s. My dad flew for PAA out of MIA 44-80, and I loved going to the airport.
I recall Corrosion Corner very well. When I saw the Corsair it was near the road, in a cluster of other aircraft including a B25. Other aircraft there were at least 3 Northrop Raider tri-motors, a C46 and a Straocruiser.

I was pretty young then but never lost those images. I wish I had a camera and taken pictures.

These are the first real good photos I have seen of Corrosion Corner from those years, despite a lot of "Google-ing". I'll pass this on to my dad to see.
