RAAF to give Indonesia 4 C-130 Hercules

Mon Nov 21, 2011 1:51 am

The RAAF is handing over 4 retired C-130H Hercules to Indoneisa as gift aid.

This is similar to when the RAAF in 1970s handed over Sabre jets to Malaysia and Indonesia.

It could be seen by some people as potential irony... if the RAAF ever needs back a C-130E or H for heritage work.... just as the last flying CAC Sabre was "reacquired" from Malaysia in 1970/80s. Lockheed brought the C-130s in early 2000s and most went to Pakistan.

I wonder if the wing root box mods have been done yet? That ain't cheap. I wouldn't mind knowing the airframe numbers on the four Hercs. Just curious if any are former USCG planes.

I think you will find they will be some of the soon to be retired RAAF C-130H. All were bought new and none will ever have been ex USCG.
