I wonder if the organizers of the Camarillo airshow will invite him back to front their 'Air Race' next year?

...and for today's example of a misplaced modifier:

"The jet made several low-altitude passes over the pier and pulled up into a steep climb before hitting the popular Ferris wheel."

As the lady called it in you could hear the folks around her cheering, wonder if she called them in too?

Obviously, we had diferent professors in J-school.

Can't say I'm impressed with LA TV news either.

That is a poorly worded piece at best, but then again with what this pilot did I'm actually surprised at the "kindness" of this editorial piece. The way they worded it, he hit the Ferris wheel. It's hard to argue the video, he was definitely closer than 500 ft from the people in (at least) one of those passes. It's a shame that this happened, I won't say I'd be one calling it in, but I can understand the concern of the ones who did.

Geez, what kind of world do we live in? Can't have fun anywhere any more!
So, this was a danger to people on the ground? Flying too close? The majority of the population is a danger to people when they get behind the wheel of an automobile. Guess everyone will be getting 60, 60, 6K at some point.

I loved watching Season 5 of "The Wire" and watching the editorial staff at the faux Baltimore Sun get waist deep in their english grammar on even the most mundane point. They complained about the same thing...that the new journalists didn't have the same attention to detail as their generation did when they came out of journalism school.

It might not have been a danger to the people, but if I had a kid on that ferris wheel and didn't know anything about what type of aircraft it was, I think I might have been a little concerned. Think about the people that might have thought about it being a foreign aircraft or terrorist. People like us that are familiar with military aircraft know better.

If I was there I would have been enjoying it though. :D

I don't understand the people on this thread who are saying 'what's the big deal' and 'can't we have fun anymore'?

Here's the big deal:

1. Flying at an indicated airspeed of more than 250 knots below 10,000 feet.

2. Flying at an indicated airspeed in excess of 200 knots while operating below Class B airspace.

3. Operating over a congested area below 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within a horizontal radius of 2,000 feet.

4. Operating at an altitude of below 500 feet over an other than congested area.

5. Performing aerobatics in Class B, Class C, Class D or Class E Airspace.

6. Conducting aerobatics within 4 nautical miles of the centerline of a Federal airway.

7. Conducting aerobatics at an altitude of below 1,500 feet above the surface.

8. Operating an aircraft so as to endanger the life or property of another.

Those are all regulations listed in the FAR's folks. And whether or not you think it 'looked cool' or was 'fun', it was still reckless and illegal....and every time someone pulls something like this, it makes it that much harder on the rest of us who "drive the speed limit". This was not sanctioned airspace for an airshow, nor was it out in the middle of the desert in uncontrolled airspace. It was right under the freakin' TCA. THAT is why "we can't have fun anymore".
