Santa Fe, NM

Visited today the Santa Fe NM airport; although weather was bad, in between rainshowers I managed to snap a few pictures:

These are just a sampler of the over 80 shots from today:

Whats the deal with the F-111?

Sun Oct 16, 2005 10:27 pm

The F-111 is acting as a Gate Guardian; it is sited on the entrance close to the terminal building. The legend on topfront wheel door reads: City of Santa Fe; the wheel door sports the number 48, and there is extensive writing on the side of the fuselage, with the call-signs of the aircraft and crews lost during:

Combat Lancer
Constant Guard V

Viet Nam 1968
Viet Nam 1972-73

Operation Eldorado Canyon
Desert Shield

Tom:

There is an outfit based at the Santa Fe airport, named Fantasy Fighters (jetwarbird.com); they provide familiarization flights, LOAS (IIRC) and military jet training for civilians.

Wow, they better clean up and take care of that F-111! There was (maybe still is?) an F-111 in a small airpark at Battle Mountain, NV. It was in better shape than this bird and the Airforce static display program took it away from them because they had failed to keep the plan up to the program standards.
