As David Hobbs would say on SPEEDS F-1 race coverage 'and 'e's got quite a large set of stones'
'Get out of your seat IIlya' 'let me sit here for a few minutes 'till things set up a bit'

Thankfully the MiG pilot had enough power to get himself out of what looked to me (admittedly a totally uneducated layman) to be a serious f***-up. . .

I wonder how much the canards help in a situation like that?

I think the "MiG pilot" was probably distracted by the thought "I'm sure I was flying a Sukhoi when I took off, and now I'm a MiG pilot!"

I wonder how many wrecks the Chinese will have getting guys trained on their carriers?

Looks like lack of situational awareness < aircraft thrust and aircraft thrust won (barely).

The deck looks tiny, like it's suited for those jump jets the Russian navy flies. Are all their carriers that small, or does that Su even operate on those carriers?

That's no Mig. It's a Sukhoi SU-33 naval version of the SU-27/30 series Flanker.....

I don't think I'm wrong in saying he would've been a smoking pile of composite material if he'd been in a Superbug... credit where due, that Sukhoi is one stupidly phenomenal aircraft. Seriously, is there another aircraft out there which would have taken an 80 degree pitch-up at low speed and simply powered out of it the way this thing did? (Honest question, I'm not trying to troll or stir the pot here)

Thanks for the link,

Lynn

Mig, Sukhoi who cares! It's Russian! LOL I don't know Russian planes well, so thanks for setting the record straight.

I guess if it is not Made in the USA then it's no good....! A "red under every bed" died last century...

Friends of mine who have flown against the Su-27 say it is unbelievable in performance. The good news is that most of the folks with them [except India/China perhaps] don't know how to use them..
