So I was watching a BBC episode of Top Gear where James May rides along with Ken Block in a rally Subaru. I can only assume they were in Southern California, but they during the filming, they drove by the nose of a Lode star with the nose art of "Lucky Lady" Anyone have info and images of the old girl?

The scenes were filmed at Inyokern, CA - KIYK. Dunno the ID of the aircraft though.

That show is most likely the single purpose for which I purchased a television!

Agree, when that overgrown Pugsly Rutledge Wood first turned up on NASCAR I wondered who's network big wigs nephew he is, cause he sure didn't get there on talent. You can tell by body english that Jeremy, Richard, and Captain Slow are really good friends whereas the three bozo's on the U.S. version are too busy trying to upstage each other.
I'm also a huge fan of The Doctor and have been since the black and white 30 minutes epics with crap for props, altho I prefer David Tennant over the current Doctor who comes off as a bit wet.

I strongly echo the comments about Top Gear. It's such a let down to see "Top Gear" in the channel guide and jump to it without really paying attention to the channel, only to find that it's the lame American version. Click.

I don't think the Australian version has ever been broadcast in the US -- Is it any good?

Lots more TOP GEAR and way, way, way less Gordon Ramsey unless they run a special and he has a fatal aneurysm on screen.

Guys, consider that Clarkson, Hamster, and Captain Slow have been doing their version together for over a dozen years. Go back and look at their late 1990's episodes and you'll see a lot of the same "awkward" relationship between them. It's only time that's made them work so well together. As the US crew's only been working together for a couple years now, I see them in a similar stage of their development, not only that, but if you don't think that the UK crew is always trying to one-up each other, then you're not watching Top Gear or you don't get British humor.

As it is, if you look at the first couple of Australian seasons (I've only seen parts of a couple of episodes on YouTube) I think you'll find the same kind of relationship at first. The German Top Gear was even worse and you could see it in the UK/German crossover episodes.

Not all of those Capt Slow/that Block guy scenes were taped at Inyokern. No Loadstars at Inyokern nor is there an aircraft graveyard there. Mojave or elsewhere in the Antelope Valley area is more likely.

I found the "Lucky Lady" on jetphotos.net. They show her as N1424 c/n 5770 at El Mirage in 2009, and say she's a Howard 500.

Well, I don't think the German version will ever change, as we Germans are not exactly comedians by nature. Could you ever think of a German version of Monty Python? Not that Germans don't like a good joke, or laugh, but German Humor? Let that up to the others, we'll stick to engineering, and cooking

Brits #4? That seems wrong at first blush, but maybe there is a large not-very funny British contingent that drags down the average. (Probably the people that Jeremy Clarkson, John Cleese, Peter Sellers et al make so much fun of, along with the Germans, the Americans, the French, the Spanish, and...)

German humor

the Japanese sent the Germans a sample of they're latest technology in machining the worlds smallest and hardest drill bit. a week later the Japanese received a package back from the Germans when they opened it they were astonished to find that it contained they're original drill bit with a hole through the middle of it!
