The Ugandan Air Force had obtained 6 C-47 Transports from the Israeli Air Force. These were numbered U-401 to U-406.They were all returned to Israel when Iddi Amin became president.
Can someone tell the Douglas C/N or USAAF S/N of these aircraft?
I have only one tie-up and that is Douglas C/N 6223 Ugandan AF U-401

Like many aspects of the IDF/AF, definitive information is elusive.
Other versions say there were just 3 C-47s loaned to Uganda and the Air Force itself insists there were only 2:
http://www.iaf.org.il/4694-32923-en/IAF.aspxAll sources seem to agree that 6 Fouga COIN jets were sent, so maybe that's where the "6" comes from. Even the C-47 serials of the IDF/AF are shrouded in mystery and confusion since callsigns (
faux "civil" registrations) are reused and/or swapped around.
Good luck hunting the number of airframes and identities, I think you'll need it!

U-402 to U-406 were derelict at Entebbe in 1993. No tie ups I'm afraid. They had been stored in Cyprus in 1976.

For you Google Earth folks, take a look at:

32 deg. 27' 28.67" E
C-47 remains???
Down by the waterfront appears to be a derelict 707, also.

There's a photo of a 9-ship Fouga formation taken in Uganda somewhere on flickr. I've also seen 8 and 12 quoted as the total supplied

. It seems likely there was more than one transfer operation so maybe 6 Fouga + 2 C-47 was just the first.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/54935919@N03/5327252895/6 were delivered in 64, with more added later. Don't know the total, but 12 is the most quoted number
