Speaking about B-17 restorations no. 2.............

Mon Dec 19, 2011 2:03 pm

Anyone have updated info about the Flying Heritage Collection's B-17E?

As a guess, probably not much. All the KPAE aircraft are undergoing Winter maintenance for the coming Fly Day season, plus futzing around with learning the Il-2. Things move @ Vulcan in a world unencumbered by the bounds of real time.

I believe it's @ KAWI @ the Vulcan facility on the field, that's several very large dark green metal buildings.

Strange... the airplane was worked on in Florida in the mid 1990's. I remember seeing photos of large portions of the sheet metal being reskinned. Didn't it even fly once in 1998 or so?

I would think that if the museum wanted to have the B-17 airworthy, they would advertise it so they could have volunteers and financial assistance.

Captain Texas you are correct, the plane had alot of work done before being sold to Paul Allen. Once it arrived at FHC it was torn down for a more thorough and authentic restoration.

Allen is the richest guy owning an NFL team, and the SEAHAWKS go to away games in one of his two private 767's and/or his private 757.
Remember this guy was the #2 guy @ MICROSQUISH before retiring so he can buy and sell you or me with whats in the ashtray of his car, if you're interested he just had one of his yachts (The Octopus I believe) up for sale it's only 256 feet long and has garage space for 18 cars aboard and two helipads

In July 1998, it flew from Ft. Lauderdale to Jackson, Miss and on to Scottsbluff, NB. In August it flew from Scottsbluff, NB to Arlington, WA. where it went into restoration.

If Paul Allen restores it with the same attention to authenticity he has with his other toys, it going to be one good looking B-17!

FHC has the tail position and ball turret on display, the tail makes PONCHITO look like an old spoon it's so polished.

I take it you've never seen the outside of the Experience Music Project @ the Seattle Center or any of VULCANS oddly designed buildings in Seattles CBD then-
Proof once again that a warehouse full of $1000.00 bills can't purchase a teaspoon of good taste.
