Since it's almost Xmas

Fri Dec 23, 2011 12:55 pm

Been around a long time, had my hand slapped a few times here, haha no big deal, question for Xmas:

Why warbirds in your life? was it family members in service? Is it model airplanes? people you have met? general aviation? The look and smell of them? what? I'm not sure how I got the bug but I'm happy I did. I used to build models, I'm a pilot and dad was a Navy pilot but I'm still not sure how I got the bug. For Xmas I'm just wondering. Happy Holidays!

For me it was a little of all the above mentioned, but now it is mainly the sound and the sense of accomplishment after working on one. :drink3:

Long story from long ago, of a 4 year old standing in the backyard watching a UNITED DC-4 fly over the house, I can still see that DC-4 as clear as if it was 10 minutes ago.

For me it was seeing an AT-6 Texan for the first time at an airport near my house (1K4). I'll actually get to ride in it for the cost of fuel. From there things just got out of control and now my personal aviation goal in life is to get checked out in an F6F Hellcat. Kind of a lofty goal I know but why make it easy?

Cheers :drinkers:

The airport was paying me $4.75 an hour Bill gave me $5.25 gas was .28 a gal the money was better and at that time it was just another old plane. Cliff Robertsons Spitfire was there when I was.
So it was a money thing more then a warbird thing
