I am trying to track down some of the surviving P-63s.

Firstly, the ex-Dan Chavatal airframes (?42-11730 and 11731). Once with Wally Fisk/Amjet, and last noted at Gosshawk, there was some talk about the projects being combined with some Kuril Island recoveries.

There is also talk in the thread above of one at Tillamook and one with Bryan Reynolds under restoration. Are these one and the same, and does anyone have any updates or an identity for this one?

Is 43-11734 (the former 2-seater converted back to single-seater spec) still stored in Northern California?

There was one for sale on Courtesy a few years back. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3509 Which one was it, and where did it end up?

42-70609 with Jerry Yagen in Virginia. Presumably another Kuril recovery? Does anyone know who did the restoration?

4-6 airframes recovered from the Kuril Islands now with the Hunt brothers in the UK. Identities include 43-11137, 44-4315 and 44-4368. Are any other identities known?

2 airframes on display in Moscow (44-4011 and 42-69775) at Victory Park and Monino. Are any others in Russia, either displayed or under restoration?

One on display on a pole in Honduras. This has been referred to as 43-11732 and 43-11729, and ex-FAH403 and 402. Does anyone have a definitive identity for it?

Other than the 2 CAF restorations, and the known publicly-displayed museum aircraft in the US, does anyone know of any more lurking out there? Any Kuril recoveries in the US (other than Yagen's?)

forgive me if either of these are repeats to your list....

and there is one that flys out of the palm springs air museum http://palmspringsairmuseum.org/ go to the aircraft page and go to the drop down menu.

neither of these has any specific info but a good place to start?

P-63E 43-11734 used to be owned by Brian Reynolds. It's now in storage in Northern Calif. and is for sale. If you would be seriously interested in purchasing this aircraft, please pm me. Please no tire kickers.

Eallen, yes, I'm aware of the 2 airworthy examples, but thanks for the info.

Warbird51, sorry, I'm researching for a magazine piece, not buying.

Ben, thanks for the info on Yagen's P-63.

Does anyone else have info on the survivors? I'm also looking for photos of the Lackland, Soplata and CAF Dixie Wing examples, if anyone out there has ones I can use.

Hi Mike... feel free to send me a private WIX email for photos and other info about the CAF Dixie Wing P-63. It has really come a LONG way in the past 12 months...likely for it to be assembled on the gear in 2012.

I can provide contact info....Im sure our P-63 resto gang would like to share pics and an update....

It would be our second water-pumper other than the P-51 that would be part of our airshow offer...we have already received inquiries for it to attend shows. Doubtful about selling rides in it...not enough room in front of that big Allison!

No word on paint schemes although I would love to see it in Soviet WW2 colors....and get to fly it wearing a big fur hat with a red star!

Nooooooo.....I want to see it in that ratty, gloss green, pseudo-Free French Air Force scheme it had back in 1972! Ugly as sin, and inaccurate as hell, but THAT was one of the CAF planes I 'branded' with back as a kid...just like the FM-2 in the USS Ranger scheme. I loved "Tumbleweed".

BTW.... I thought that Yegan's P-63 was static and corroded to point where he didn't want to restore it... Anyone know the real status of it (if not, I'll ask some one who may well know)...

That's an idea to repaint it in Free French colors...one of our rmembers flew at Dien Bien Phu and would really appreicate that.

I seem to recollect that the Yaks and P-63s of the Free French AF had some pretty smart looking markings....but not as fun as all of those sayings that were written on the Soviet P-63s and other figthers...something along the lines of "A gift from the proletariat workers of the petrograd tank factory"...very similar to what the Brits did with sponsoring Spitfires...

I bought up the question if anyone knows about the ex CAF, and the remains of 3 others that were in warbird Digest with "World Wide (?) Warbirds" in Arizona. Sorry I can not get to my issue where I am right now. Some Brighter Wixer will come to the info rescue, Good Luck, :D Anthony

I too, second the request for information on all of the P-63 material that went to Arizona...... It is like they just dropped off the radar screen...... There really is a great deal of P-63 material and airframes out there..... Unfortunately it appears they just will not command the market and imagination like the P-51 and P-40......... At times (it too appears) that the P-47 is in the same boat as the P-63.... There are airframes available...... it just seems like everyone is waiting for someone else to do the work and put in the pesos to do so......
