This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

This is a little off subject, but I was down at Sheppard AFB looking at an EC-135H being scrapped, to see what parts we might want from it for our PDM line. There was an F-111 that will be scrapped.

It seems that most museums want F-15s and F-16s and not the F-111. I sure hate to see any birds scrapped. Tailwinds, Steve.

I can remember back in 1966 @ the Kelly AFB 50th Bday, a F-111 did a high fly by. Bob Hoover was in Ole Yeller. The F-111 then is what the F-22 is today.

Anyone care to guess at what point in the future people say “If only we had known…”

Don't worry, the Aussies will be nice enough to send a few back our way!
(After all, re-importation worked with the P-51, F-86 etc.)

Just so you know 2010 is the agreed phase out date for our aircraft but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go longer as there is no replacement in the Air yet!!! JSF is still a long way off for Aus .............
There are a few Christmas trees already at Amberley and the Polis keep blabbing on about how the Gs aren't as useful as the As - Bull !!!
So it is possible that you could get one here really soon
One prominant collector apparently has an agreement to take a F111 on for $1 the day after it finishes a D inspection /maintaince (Worth $4Mil on it's own) when all the aircraft are retired so one may keep flying at least for a while after retirement.

I don't think the F-22 goes near replaceing it,that's we just hang on to them til they fall apart.
The only equivalent seems to be the Sukhoi and the guys next door have those.

Good grief!! The Wendover Airfield Museum has been asking the USAF Static Program for an F-111 for a couple of years now!! We want one because the 509th Bomb Wing flew them for awhile. The 509th Composite trained here so we figure its a "heritage" plane!
Maybe I'll make a call to Wright Patt. . . . . .

Boy that stinks! I always get a funny look from the "kids" when they ask me if I really worked on F-111's.
