Warbird Information Exchange

I photographed a cockpit mockup at the Canadian Warplane Museum a few summers ago and for the life of me I do remember what type of aircraft it was supposed to be?,,,it was setup so that children could see and play with the instruments etc..It would have been a multi engine aircraft..something like a DC3 or Beech 18 or C45 or C119? It was pretty complete instrument wise...

Does anyone remember this cockpit trainer?

I haven't seen the C-119 cockpit at the CAvM in a long time. I am guessing the one you saw is this one. Steve Tournay could likely confirm.

I thought it was a Cessna Crane, but I have to admit that I'm not entirely sure.

The CWH also had a second Bolingbroke cockpit section at one time. It was not touched by the 1996 hanger fire.

I thought it was maybe a C119 also,,,but instrument and interior wise it looks much smaller than the C119 that I photographed at Canada Aviation Museum a few summers ago,,, it might be a Crane?

Hey Mike,

the fire that burned down most of hangar 3 at CWH was February 15, 1993, Not 1996. Had moved my plane from hangar 3 to hangar 4 just 2 weeks before. Was definelty a sad day sifting through the rubble.

Hi Mike, Glenn, Andrew et al--

I wonder if the "cockpit" seen at CWH was a C-119 cockpit procedures trainer they had there? I forget whether it was in the hangar last time I visited (but that was way back in June anyway). The exterior of it was just a generic "large aircraft flightdeck", didn't look all that C-119-like, but I gather (not having spent much--if any--time inside a C-119) the instrument panel, et cetera, was fairly representative of a C-119's...

Glenn--didn't realize your bird (the T-34, I assume) had had a rather narrow escape like that!

You are correct in that the a CC119 cockpit didn't seem to match this one at CWHM so I think this might be a fabricated generic cockpit procedures trainer ... I looked at some Crane cockpits and they were much smaller indeed...
