I don't want to be unfair to JPAC, because I don't know anything about the decision process thay use to allocate their efforts, but why did the family have to bring the political heat to get the remains recovered?

Someone else already did all the leg work to find the site and ID the wreck, so I'm wondering what could have been the problem.

The other night on PBS, there was a program about a WW2 sub that went missing and the WW2 submarine veterans in Wisconsin, Manitowec I believe is the town where they are located, financed an expedition after reviewing Japanese naval records and found the claim of the sinking of a sub in the last reported position of the sub in question. The expedition found the sub and reported it to the navy who did not feel it was necessary to do anything. Just like above, after family members of the crew started to protest and finally when members of congress got invovled the navy decided to investigate. Just another example of why we need to honor all who have served.
