Shipwreck in Italy

Just how are they going to get this giant of a ship out of there. There has been much talk about searching for additional victims and possible neglect on part of the captain, but I have heard nothing about salvaging the ship. Will they just start hacking away at it right where it lies? Any salvage experts out there?

On the news this morning they said that the owner of the ship has already contacted and contracterd with a salvage crew. The first thing that they will probably do is remove the fuel onboard to prevent a spill. I'm sure there is plenty of talk going on non stop within the salvage crew as to what should be done and how. Last I heard they suspended the search for survivors because the ship had shifted.

I missed most of the news details on this.., because honestly it did not interest me. One thing that does interest me.

How, in 2011, does a ship run aground and SINK.

No watertight compartments?

I saw the extensive damage and the rock stuck in the hull.., but they could not seal that area off?

Has this been covered in the news, because I could not find it.

I was thinking the same thing. I have not heard anything about how it could happen. I have heard a couple of reporters asking this question and from they have said they have not received an answer.

A poorly led and trained crew! If the Captain and crew had proper training and knew proper damage control procedures, things probably would have turned out better. Even more important, if the Captain hadn't been show boating by going off established course, none of this would have happend in the first place.

But since it didn happen, now you have waiters and cabin attendants trying to get all those untrained passengers to life boat stations with no direction from any ships officers....in fact, it appears there was a serious state of denial by senior crew members going on after the collision.

The ship lurches and shudders hard enough to launch dinnerware and passengers (in calm seas) and the PA announces "everything is fine? Seriously?

Somebody on board knew something, the gash is on the portside and the ship was turned 180* and listed on its starboard side! Sounds like whoever did that was trying to beach it as close to shore as possible.
