Where are they now? #1

This will be a regular post if so desired. I will post some photos of older/gone/classic warbirds and let the members here fill in as much as they can about the airplane. Include "now" photos, share your stories of working on the aircraft or anything else you may know about her. Here is my first golden oldie.

That would be FG-1D Bu 92629. Now on display at the Palm Springs Air Museum. I got a ride in her (with a Wildcat on 1 wing and a Hellcat on the other) back when she was part of Planes of Fame East at FCM.

I think all of the Pond collection is flyable, but isn't there some sort of legal thing going on there?

Wow, you guys aren't that old.........

All of Pond's Collection (other than the P-63 and others more recently acquired) are grounded as some legal problems are being worked out. Of course those problems have been going on for a long time..... Not sure of current status. Last I heard they were close to resolution.

I thought I read that none of the Pond birds would by flying until they were fully paid for by the museum, except for a select few which were acquired in a different transaction. No?

Does anyone know the story about the Hellcat-looking guns in the wings? Just doesn't look quite right...Also, I love the markings of her on the top of the page. If someone could do a Bunker Hill Corsair today, I would sure love to see it. I always loved that scheme...even if it was supposed to be overall gloss sea blue! :lol:

That particular Corsair will always be special to me. It's the first one I ever saw in real life, at the Selfridge Air Show in 1977. At the time, my friends and I were in our early teens, and thought that "Ba Ba Blacksheep" was the coolest show EVER!.
