An audience with a Vampire .....

Thu Feb 16, 2012 2:45 pm

This photo essay comes to you today ~ not from a spooky castle in the depths of Transylvania but the confines of the IWM Duxford Conservation Hangar ~
where months of painstaking work will soon culminate in a bench mark static restoration of a de Havilland Vampire

Welcome to ......

Today for the first time ~ all the masking paper came off to reveal a rather stunning silver and dayglo ( that's DAYGLO when seen up close )
paint scheme on Vampire T.11 ~ WZ590.

It has to be said that the camera I used is not capable of reproducing the really vivid finish of this aircraft.
Anything you see in these pix that looks less than full-on bright ORANGE is not how it looks to the eye when standing close to it

Did I mention that none of the markings have been applied with vinyl ~ they're all carefully spray painted on with stencils

There's still some detail work to do before this project is offically rolled out next month

I can't wait to see it once the engine is installed and all the missing panels are added and buttoned up

A Cold War era jet trainer that really rocks ?

Ohhhh I think so yes ! :D

Wow!!! This looks absolutely fantastic!

Thanks very much for posting. Any chance you could share the details of the aircraft's history?

Cheers,
Richard
