Help needed to identify cowl flaps and another part

Sat Feb 25, 2012 3:04 am

During one of my recent clearouts I found a couple of parts that I am stumped by.

First one will probably be easier as it is mostly intact. (click on images for larger pic)

There are numbers and stamps on the flaps - number is 5073587

And on the hinge its 2073477

The inspection stamp I thought may have been Douglas but I am not an expert on these things :?

The other part in the same lot - what on earth is that ? Also has similar part numbers and stamps as shown in the photo so I think from the same aircraft.

Bear in mind this is Australia and from an ex RAAF person's estate. Any help would be greatly appreciated !

The cowl flaps look like B-17 as well as the detail photo of the hinge.

Don't know about the other item

Hey thanks! I think you're right, just found a pic of a B17 cowl flap ring. Nice detective work :D

The other part as I mentioned is from the same group of items and I am going to assume it's B17 as well, just no idea what (there is nothing inside it either !

Cheers
