Spotted this article about the Cavanaugh P-51 having some landing gear trouble. Looks like everything ended well.

Glad to hear that pilot Chuck Gardner, passenger Bill Barton and aircraft are safe!

From the article:

Barton said 90-year-old veteran pilot Bob Hoover gave the pilot instructions by phone on how to fix the landing gear.

"He's the one that instructed us to go out over Baldwin County and over the delta and pull the high G's, the high G maneuvers that actually got the landing gear loosened," said Barton.

A big Bravo Zulu to Bob Hoover as well!

It never hurts to have Mr. Hoover available..... How do you find him that fast when you need him????

I cannot overstate how much I love the fact that they got Bob freakin' Hoover on the PHONE to talk Chuck through getting the gear to properly extend and lock. This is an awesome story from top to bottom. :) :drink3: :supz:

EDIT: I just found a pic taken in the control tower during the incident!

It was a joint effort. Brad Pilgram was on the radio with chuck, I was at home in Plano and called Bob Hoover after the normal procedures didn't get the gear down. I relayed to Brad who relayed to Chuck. All told Chuck did a great job. Thanks to Brad for being there to help Chuck.

Nice work and congrats to all involved! I love the fact that you were able to get Bob Hoover on the line to assist. 8)
