Is this enough? (1/144th Collection)

Mon Feb 27, 2012 1:47 pm

Contest Time:

How many different aircraft do you see? This is the bulk of our "finished" collection of 1/144th models. Many duplicates in different schemes. Many pre built or half built that required finishing. Some full on kits that were put together. This stands next to my bed. Do I have a problem?

Nope. Not enough.

I'd like a better look at the British types on the top shelf there. You're aware, I'm sure, that you can get a Halifax, Wellington, etc., if you are willing to pay through the nose for some of the lesser quality diecasts.

Those civvy types clustered under the C-130 are Hallmark ornaments, correct? Mostly they look overscale; have you determined whether any are close to 1/144?

Obviously a great collection and it's nice to think about how impossible it would have been to put this together just 10 or so years ago, before the Japanese got into the pre-builts and a few indie kit makers like Amodel and Sweet got their act together.

Yeah I dont think so either. :drink3:

1. I'll try and get a better shot of the british stuff for you.
2. Still looking for a cheap (Intact) Wellington. I have a Halifax in the mail.
3. Those are indeed all the Hallmark ornaments. As far as I see it, the Stinson Reliant is the only one thats close to 1/144 but i could be wrong.
4. Your right about that! All of these would have to been modified from pre-existing examples or scratch built. Almost all of the pre-built stuff comes from either Japan or Europe. Japan with Sweet, F-Toys, Bandai, Cafe Reo, Takara, etc. While in Europe we have Corgi (Barely nowadays) IXO, Altaya, A-Model, etc.

Great stuff! More coming soon! I've been meaning to reorganize / clean the case anyway so ill take some new pics.

Well you have some beauties there for sure. I am a big fan of those F-toys etc. last year I had just finished an old Arii SB2C - gawd, what an awful kit - when the Japanese came out with a lovely prebuilt one. I haven't bought one but I see you have. They are even doing WWI types now. And of course you can add an X-wing or Imperial Walker to the collection if you want to take it back to "a long time ago".

I have some old vac conversions and rarities in this scale that I hope will form the core of my shelf one day. Vickers Viscount, Avro York, Canadair North Star, that sort of thing. Even the Japanese won't get around to those for a while.

It's really the only scale where you can display the whole sweep of aviation from single sweaters to a 747 or Saturn V in a reasonable space. If your mate has a liberal understanding of reasonable.

Scott,
Is that an Alpha & a VF-1D Trainer in Battloid Mode?
I'm as big into Macross as I am into Corsairs :D

Very nice collection Chris 8) It really show cases the benefits of 1/144. You can have a large collection while taking up very little floor space.
