Auction did end but photos still on show

Rare war photos of WW2 aircraft

I'd sure like to see other photos of the U.S. Ambassadors C-87 and some info on that B-24 with what look like cannons or rocket tubes sticking out of the bomb bay door area.

"Grandpappy" was the prototype XB-24 (msn1) converted for VIP use by Convair and thus not a USAAF C-87. Was issued two distinct serials 39-556 (which it never carried) then 39-680.

DANG!! Should have named it 'The I.C.U.2'. Safely tucked away in my 'favorites' against the day I dig out those really old MATCHBOX PB4Y/C-87 pieces out of the spares box.

Interesting album.

There was a similar album sold at a local estate auction recently, for $220.

The more interesting photos included the Japanese surrender Betty bombers, with American and Japanese mechanics working on the engines.

I forgot the author's name, but he must have been a big shot, because he also took a number of photos during the surrender ceremony, and was maybe 20ft away from the signing table. The photos were very high quality.


Still, it doesn't match another local estate sale. The deceased was a member of the American legal team at the Nuremberg trials, and took lots of photos of famous Nazi officials, and had their uniforms, daggers, swords, and even a scepter. I missed buying all of it by about 5 minutes.
