Yap Island Missing Air Crew Project Search Trip-October 2005

My wife and I traveled to Yap Island in October to search for my uncle's B-24 that was lost over Yap on 25 June 1944 with the 307th Bomb Group. Although we did not find my uncle's B-24 on this trip we were able to locate numerous American crash sites and conducted many interviews with Yapese elders. We interviewed two Yapese elders who witnessed the shoot down and crash of my uncles planes therefore, we have a solid location to explore on our Phase II search trip next year.

While on Yap we dove the waters off the reef, hacked through jungles and mangrove swamps to document the American crash sites including two Hellcat crash sites, one Corsair crash site, and multiple Japanese crash sites.

The idea of going and searching for crashed WW2 airplanes has always interested me. Its amazing that you went and did that. I Hope you find the B-24 in phase two.
