T-6 on Bali, Indonesia

Fri Apr 06, 2012 6:43 pm

Am wondering if someone might help me find the park near the Bali airport that has an old T-6 Texan that has sat there for years. I first saw it while driving by in 1974 and then again about 4 years ago but the opportunity was never there to stop and examine and photograph. Am here on Bali now and was looking for something to do other than go to the beach but locating this orange-colored ex-Indonesian AF T-6 has proved difficult given the confussing roads.
Thanks

An old girlfriend in Bali on business photographed it for me about ten years ago, but it was a BT-13 not a T-6. And it was orange. I'd love to see some pics of it though if you can find it.

Found some pics here on airliners.net

Looks like it's on (or near) the grounds of the airport at Denpasar.

Thanks for the link and info but I am pretty sure it was an AT-6 and the color was overall orange and in a sorry looking state. I will see if I can locate it and photograph it.
Thanks!

That is the ugliest BT-13 on the planet. They should get it up on a pole to get it farther away from people.

Hello forum-readers, and especially "Vancouver spartakle",

I am not aware of this Bali Harvard/Texan, but when it turns out to be a T-6, and not a BT-13, I am most interested. The following T-6s are known to exist (or at least in the two last decades):

B-408, Noorduyn AT-16-ND Harvard IIB @ Bandung, gateguard Sulaiman barracks
B-416, Noorduyn AT-16-ND Harvard IIB @ Bukitinggi with ABRI Satriamandala Museum; last noted 2003/03/xx
B-419, Noorduyn AT-16-ND Harvard IIB @ Bukitinggi with Army Museum; last noted 2004/05/25
B-423, Noorduyn AT-16-ND Harvard IIB @ Kalijati with Historic Flight
B-424, Noorduyn AT-16-ND Harvard IIB @ Padang with City Museum; last noted 2004/05/26
B-427, Noorduyn AT-16-ND Harvard IIB @ Yogyakarta with Museum Pusat TNI-AU; wreck reported until mid 90s
B-440, North American AT-6 Texan @ Yogyakarta with Museum Akademi Angkatan Udara; last noted 2000/03/xx
B-442, North American AT-6 Texan @ Yogyakarta with Museum Akademi Angkatan Udara; last noted 2000/03/xx
B-448, North American AT-6 Texan @ Yogyakarta with Museum Pusat TNI-AU; last noted 2003/03/xx
B-475, composite (CCF Harvard Mk.4?) @ Kalijati with Historic Flight
B-4xx, Harvard/Texan?, Jakarta-Selatan with Polytechnic Jakarta-Selatan; last noted 1990/12/xx

Best regards,

Benno

Thanks for the good information re: T-6 Texans & Harvards located in Indonesia. I spoke with a taxi driver here on Bali about the "old military airplane" in a park here on Bali by the airport and he conferred with another taxi driver (much talking and handwaving etc) and then explained to me that the park with the airplane is currently surrounded by a large temporary fence for the duration of some sort of construction project. I drove by not long afterward and saw the fence but have yet to see if there is a way of getting past it for a closer look. The airplaane that I recall seeing was not in the color scheme of the BT-13 but was painted overall orange.
