There is a std stencil machine that has a round handle on top, about 18-24" square and is made in various letter heights. They weigh a ton.
It was the std for military and aircraft makers.
I forget the mfg but I have seen quite a few in use even though they were made from the 40s on.
What is the height of the letters?

I believe it is the Ideal brand-

1939-1945 Ideal Stencil Machines are used extensively by the U.S. Armed Forces in World War II. During a peak production year, more than 2,000 stencil machines are made by over 70 employees. A second story is added to the office building.

From their web site.

A photo of one-

I believe they had standard sizing of #1, #2 ect. Just have to find the # and what height it is.

Please remember to spell "HANDLE" correctly when you reapply the stenciling! :P

Marsh also made tons of the machines. You can pick them up off of fleabay or craigslist in the various sizes for under a few hundred bucks. They will work with poster board, but prefer to eat oilboard. Stencil stock can be had from various places like Graingers, but hold your bottle of nitro tablets close when they give you the price...

Looks like MD Military Stencil A.

I've used it to make vinyl lettering for some local birds.

If this is what you need I can email you the font.

But in all seriousness, is "Handel" spelled correctly for some weird reason for this era, or is it supposed to be Handle?

Should have been "Handle"

There's also a font called "phantomstencil" that's close

The question I wanted Chris to ask was this... Given the restoration process, should we keep the misspelling or correct it ?

I know its silly but
The Smithsonian in me says keep it misspelled
The common sense in me says correct it

We would like the Wix Family to voice an opinion and to participate in the decision

Doubt it would have gotten out the door over at the kite factory with a misspelling like that

I was wondering that too. If you do choose to keep it "correctly" misspelled, make sure you keep a photo to document it!
