Indiana Based Warbirds

Tue Nov 08, 2005 6:34 pm

I'm currently trying to keep track of all "flyable" warbirds in the state of Indiana. I know of James Read's warbirds, the AMHF,Tom Woods, and the CAF Indiana Wing and CAF Great Lakes Wing. But who else? I would like to know the plane and possibly the owners name. Does anyone have any ideas? Or a place where I could find the information I'm needing?

Don't forget about Clark County. Not sure what is there now, but the most recent Warbird's Digest has the story on the FG-1D.

Any photos of your newly purchased T6G, Tim?

I think Clark County is home to the P-51's Shangri-la and Hurry Home Honey if I remember correctly.

How's the weather in Valpo! I know there's noting in terre haute. There was a OV-1 there that belonged to IVY TEC. The army flew it in and after that it just set.

Where was the mohawk Terre Haute or Valpo?

Harland Avezzie of Westfield, MA has a TBF that was affiliated with the Indiana Museum of Military History in Indianapolis, but I am not sure what the affiliation is... I know the plane is under long term rebuild in Westfield though.

Steve Hay's TBM N4171A used to be based in Indiana but was sold to Calif a few years back.

Ryan - I think that listing of the Avezzie TBF is a red herring. I am pretty sure that the TBF is Mr. Avezzie's plane and isn't associated with the Ropkeys. Wonder if he bought the TBF project from them?
