Douglas F3D Book Released

Just wanted to say that my book, "The F3D Skyknight in Action," has been released.

Looking forward to it..I prefer books on somewhat obscure aircraft as opposed to well-known types.

BTW:
Do you know anything about the plan to convert surplus F3Ds into biz jets. I understand it was a factory proposal and Heinemann was involved.

Hi Alan,

I see the new Squadron flyer has it listed for sale but when I try to find it at the Squadron website, it seems to be absent for some reason - any ideas? Guess I should call Squadron and ask them, eh?

I'm really looking forward to buying a copy of your book.

Congratulations, Alan. I agree with John, too, seeing something like this is more of interest than another Spitangpotboiler. :wink:

Squadron should have it on their website, unless they don't want to be selling it - where possible and the publisher wants to, it's good to direct the potential buyer to the publisher as more of the money goes to the producer than to a retailer - good for the future of your publisher, and future books. (Speaking as an ex-retailer and current publisher!)

Alan,

I finally picked up a copy of your book yesterday at the Squadron Open House and I must say that it's superb. The stunning color photos of the Korean War ear birds and the clear shots from Vietnam are well worth the price tag.

Thanks for putting together such a super book on an interesting aircraft. :drink3:

I think the Piaggio PD.808 was based on the F3D. Apparently Piaggio bought the design from Douglas so it's definitely possible. Of course, it was a new-build aircraft and not a conversion as you mentioned. Too bad they never did that. There might have been some flyable F3Ds around today.

Well, I don't know about 1/32 scale but your book has given me the enthusiasm to dust off my 1/72 Matchbox kit and finish it.

If it's more indepth that the Naval Fighters book that'll be something. I'm sure the color stuff will be better.
