Zero's Over Chino!

Yes that “other Zero” has been staying with us in our hangar since last summer. It is said to be heading way up north sometime soon.

The "other" Zero fighter plane, which has been at our Aviation
Museum during the past nine months, will be leaving us next
week. It is one of only four Zeros in the world which are
currently flying.

Jason Somes will be flying the Mitsubishi A6M3-22 Zero #N553TT
from Camarillo Airport to Van Nuys Airport on Thursday, May 10, with
an estimated take-off time of 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Jason will take off from Van Nuys on Friday, May 11 for the first leg of
his flight to Anchorage. He expects to take three days to complete the
trip.

The Zero will become part of the fleet of planes at the Alaska Aviation
Heritage Museum in Anchorage.

Please join us on Thursday, May 10 at 3:00 p.m. to take advantage of this
memorable aviation event. It will be a great photo opportunity. Think about
it - one-half of the world's flying Zeros will be together for the last time at
our CAF-SoCAWing's Aviation Museum!

If Chino is the start of the warbird season, then this is shaping up to be one excellent season. Can't wait to see what pops up this summer.

Having had the incredible privilege to see the Blayd Zero perform a short routine in the rising sun during the Doolittle Reunion a couple weeks back, I have become a convert to the unparalleled beauty of an airborne A6M... it really is a beautiful design. And to see THREE airborne in formation is just incredible.

And yet- as awesome as all that is, the pic which REALLY sent chills up my spine is that prewar polished P-40. Sweet Keerist, that right there gets my vote for Surprise Of The Year as well as Restoration Of The Year. It's gonna be reeeeeally difficult to top that.

Sounds like it's gonna be a spectacular show- good luck to all the pilots and crew, fly safe and HAVE FUN!!!

I thought I would be going to "Warbirds over the Beach" in Virginia Beach after my daughters graduation in Charleston, but instead will move her to Nashville. I thought I would be at Thunder over Michigan but I will instead be in Anchorage starting a cruise. I was making plans to see the museum and now nothing will stop me . A Zero in Anchorage , I will not miss.
