The racer is Crosby's CR-3, a personal favourite of mine. What's the Alaskan airmail bird?

The Swanson-Fahlin SF-2 Plymocoupe. Not a mailplane, but a promo scheme for a failed attempt at a nonstop flight from Anchorage to Seattle. It crashed at Juneau September 1936 where the pilot telegraphed his backers, "Sea-Aska on her asska in Alaska" Powered by a 6 cyl Plymouth auto engine.

WOW! What a tale on the Swanson-Fahlin airplane. Absolutely in obscura as a type and the record attempt, pretty gutsy to try Anc to Sea in the very late Summer when the weather goes very bad instantly. Thanks for a facinating tale within a tale.
