I have to agree about the Clipper photo. I also like the 2 B-36's in formation. The shot up German plane junkyard is most interesting.

I like that shot too. Interesting details for the color/markings anoraks. Like how the 4 planes display at least 3 different colors of green on the nose and no two have the same shape of green area. I like the red or orange leading edges of all tail surfaces on the 3rd from the front ("Mary"?).

I'm a bit rusty with VIII AF schtuff, but I believe that's a 2nd Scouting Force marking. The ship in question is P-51D 44-13795, named 'Little Mary'... she apparently served with the 2nd SF at some point and was later sent to the 383rd FS, 364th FG.

I was actually thinking the same about some of the others, such as the first P-38 shot in the thread and the Me 163 photo. They both have the look of colorized photos... especially the Me 163. The P-38 photo has some elements which put me on the fence.

As to the P-51 photos I posted, they're genuine color. From what I read on the 359th FG Association's Facebook pages, these were scanned from slides provided by the original photographer... Caroline's pilot, Thomas P. Smith.

Colorized photos are often quite easy to spot, but not always... most 'colorizers' do pretty mediocre work, but there *are* some talented folks out there. And sometimes genuine color photos look faked because they were scanned from a printed source that used funky printing processes. And then there's the issue of the film that was used... or the conditions under which the photos were shot... or processed... or... there's lotsa variables.
