F4U Folks:

One of Mark's color photos is this mystery FG-1D in prime yellow scheme. Somewhere in the U.S c. late 1959??

Does any one know the place or history of this particular aircraft??

Can anyone make out what is written on the front of that hangar?

The paint color looks like US Forest Service.

It's gotta be a pretty old picture (early-ish 60's) judging by the faded out '54 Lincoln 'Beater' and Renault Dauphine in the parking lot, Dauphines led short, tortured lives.

What is that strange thing under the left wing, or is it just some artifact caused by the camera angle?

The large dark letters look to say BUFF or something along those lines.

Looks like new fabric before getting an aluminumized dope coat.

Didn't know the fabric went that far forward, I thought it was only on the ailerons. So I took a look at the 1:32 F4U-1 model I'm building as a present for a kid who just got into Annapolis, and I see you're right.

That's the current Yagen Corsair:

It would seem this pic was taken in the 60s, as the plane originally had "New York" markings on it according to the registry

Or not quite glued on anymore.
These had fabric on the majority of the outer wings aft of the spar and gun bay outboard top and bottom.
