FG-1D Mystery Aircraft

Did anyone else zoom in on the Corsair picture? Look at the bottom of the engine cowling just aft of the cowl flaps...now look down to the puddle on the ground. I swear I see lines of fluid coming from the aircraft going to the puddle. Also the puddle looks like its growing with a small tail of fluid going past the left gear. Maybe my eyes are getting old or my iPhone is messing up the picture. Anybody else that or am I crazy.

I'd say it has been parked in the same spot for an extended period of time.
The vertical lines seem to be from the quality of the photo or scan.
The puddle doesn't look have a fresh, shiny look or have a thickness to it which it would have if it was the thick oil that would drain.
It appears to be missing the lower accessory cowl and the rudder.

BuNo.92508 was owned by Bob Matteri at the time. I'm going to step out on a limb and say that the airport is Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, CA, which is where Matteri took the plane after refabricing the wings (circa 1961).

It made a few appearances at airshows in Souther California after it had been stripped to bare metal. The only markings applied at that time were some Blue Max style crosses (kill marks), though I've still not seen a photo of the plane in that configuration.

Any chance some of you hard core 'seasoned' photogs have some shots of a silver civilian Corsair from the 1960s?

Muu 2's are a good thing as long as both are turning...

They fly pretty well on one as well, at least I was impressed after the surprise wore off.
