Ford Mustangs

Sat May 19, 2012 8:56 am

I've noticed that quite a few WIXers seem to have Mustangs and figured I'd start a thread...

I have a 2003 GT with a few mods as my daily driver and my father has a 1971 Boss 351 that his cousin ordered new. I was raised in a Ford household so winding up with a Mustang of my own was inevitable. While my families Firebirds outnumber the Mustangs (Hence the TA in my username) I still enjoy the Ford Pony's of all years and styles.

So... what do you have?

I see you got a choice shot at E-Town, very nice.

I just traded my 08 GT for this 12 GT "stripper" with the Brembo brake/suspension package being the only option. I added the Boss 302 lower fascia last week for brake cooling and the look. 412hp stock and I get 26mpg highway. The actual Boss is my friends car.

And the 65 vert 289 I sold last summer. Spent years restoring it. Sold it to "become an adult" and buy a house."

Despite all these Fords i am actually a Mopar guy. Problem is the Challenger is too expensive and heavy. I have a 70 Duster I rescued from a junkyard (drove it home) and its in the middle of a BB conversion with a 383. I autocross frequently and am looking to do some road course stuff at NJ Motorsports Park.

Here's mine.

Nothing like bolting on 250 HP! If you know the WHP divide that by .8 and you'll get the flywheel HP. Or if you know the flywheel HP X's it by .8 to get the WHP. Roughly my motor is cranking out 605HP!

I was hoping a few more WIXers would chime in...

Oh well, we have plenty of nice Mustangs in this thread already! I find it amusing that three of us are in NJ too. Small world. Anyone going to Fords @ Carlisle PA next weekend? I'm hoping to hit WWII weekend and the Ford show.

jtramo, nice cars, I am a fan of the 05+ cars and both of your GT's are sweet.

Robkamm, I'd love to hear more about your 03 Mach-1, since I have an 03 it is fun to compare the differences. My buddy I bought my GT from initially wanted a Mach, but couldn't afford it so he chose this GT instead.

262crew, that is a great looking GT, love the GT-350 stripes. I'm sure that blower gives it a real kick in the pants.

Since I picked up my car two years ago I've added 03/04 Cobra front brakes, Ford Racing Bullitt Suspension Kit, Caster Camber plates, adj tie-rods, re-installed a stock airbox (that K&N cold air intake wasn't so great for year-round driving), various poly bushings, etc... The handling is starting to get where I want it.

I always wanted a blue mach 1 since i was 16. we had a guy up the street from us that has a blue shacker hood 69 mustang i really wanted back in the 1980s. could not afford it then. when the new version came out in 2003 i had to get one. its stock. 12000 miles on it now. It hangs out in the garage most of the time. its blue. i dont know how to post pictures on this web site. sorry. in the past ive had a 71 mach 1 green/silver, 1968 gt gastback that i hated. I dont know what all the hype about those is. its small, handled badly with bad brakes from the factory, 67 convert and a 79 pace car. I have pictures of them all. Im not sure whats with all of us from NJ but it doesnt suprise me.

Cool Rob, glad to hear you finally got a blue Mach of your own! I think they are great looking cars, I can't stand the fake scoop on my GT, I'd love to have that shaker set-up.

I really like that green and silver color combo on the 71 you had too.

An older restoration, took it down to the body shell. Did most of the work myself. 218th Boss 429 built, one of the few with an original motor. Driven occasionally on AV gas, runs good on the stuff and smells like horsepower.

Now, that's a BAD BOY!!! Test drove one when they were new, it was like being smacked in the back of the head with an Oak 4 X 4 swung by a weightlifter  I just wasn't ready to give up my 67 390 COUGAR at that point.

These things have 500+ hp in stock trim. Not like driving a new car at all, crude and in your face. Took some time to un-do all the modifications done over the years. Last one was the shifter. Doing speed shifts, missed a gear. Until the rpm's got back to earth my heart stopped.

Awesome Boss 9! I think the 69 Boss 9 is one of the meanest looking cars ever built. Kudos on doing most of the work yourself too.

My father runs 100LL in his 71 too. Smells great. :D

Fuel is one of the problems with these things. I use 100LL most of the time. Kind of spendy for a car that [if your lucky] gets 8 mpg. Don't know what is in the stuff but the motor runs great and smells good with it.

Nice Notchback Hemiman. Very sharp. A black 5.0 LX Notchback is a mean little car, all business. 8) I'm sure it is a rocket with the 331 and blower. Nice choice of rims and cowl hood. Several of my friends have had 5.0 Fox Bodies over the years and I wouldn't be opposed to having one myself one of these days.
