Vietnam Airman's Remains Return Home After 43 Years

Read more: http://www.4029tv.com/news/31124042/det ... z1wHP954eA

My dad's aircraft was shot down on the Vietnam-Laotian border," Kelly Meroney said. "His wingman, who was with him, all he saw was a giant fireball and no contact with the plane."

The captain was considered missing in action until 1970, when the Air Force changed his status to killed in action, even though the body was never found. Twenty-four years later, the military went back to the battleground.

Thank you Sir!

Wonder if he was the son of Virgil Meroney from the 352nd FS lost in WWII?

Apparently he was the son of the WWII ace Virgil Meroney who was NOT lost in WWII but actually retired from the Air Force in 1970 and died in 1980. According to the bio on Colonel Meroney he actually flew a mission with his son in SE Asia before the younger 1stLt/Capt Meroney was lost in 1969. A tragic story of two heroes. Glad to see Captain Meroney returned home after 43 years.

My mistake on the first Virgil Meroney, I was lazy in my research. Thanks for setting me straight. I'm glad that the family can finally lay Capt Meroney to rest.
