My L-4 vistis a B-25

Thu May 31, 2012 9:56 pm

I did a little flying in the L 4 on Memorial Day and decided to head over to Franklin ( FKN ) to pay a visit to the abandoned B-25J on the field that is well known here. 44-31508. Each time I see her she looks worse and worse. She must have 300 lbs of bird droppings covering her. Bomb bay doors open as always and there must have been 20 birds in the cockpit and as many more in the aft fuselage and they were all less than pleased when I went up into the bomb bay for a look around. She is slowly just wasting away.

The PT 26 that was abandoned there is also slowly rotting away. The prop has now rotted down to only the hub and it is disintegrating.

They are both sad sights and even more so on Memorial Day but we visited them to pay our respects nonetheless.

'Tis really sad to see that B-25 wasting away, and the PT as well...

That said, the Mitchell does provide a nice backdrop for that beautiful bug... any more pics of either the derelicts or your L-4?

Here's a few past threads which may or may not answer your question...

Here's a look at the B-25 in happier times... Oshkosh 1986, according to the filename. Apologies to the photog, I have no record of your name. Beauty of a shot, whoever you are.

Thanks for the comments on my L 4. I am lucky to have her. I took around 40 pics of the 25 some with the L 4 most without and some of the interior of the bomb bay. Having trouble downloading them for some reason but once I do I will post some up.

Here is a low res pic of the 25. I tried to get a picture that made her look decent. Didnt get any of the PT this time. Had to chase the sun back home.

I didnt go into the story since it has been well covered before. Just wanted to show she is still around.

And one more with the L 4
