A straight line is the shortest distance between two points, but sometimes not the safest!

Ouch!

I photographed this hailstone from storm in Alberta a few years ago. It had melted some before I took the photo!

Wonder what it sounded like to the passengers? I'll bet there were a few "Hail" Marys being uttered.

ouch! That had to have hurt! I would not want to fly in weather that would do that!

As bad as that damage is I have actually seen a Gulfstream that was damaged much worse by hail.

Is that recent... like, from the storms on Sat evening?

We had just finished flying out of UES in the T-28, and had put it in the hangar. In the process of putting the twin comanche away, it began to rain, then hail... so we ran to the next door (empty) hangar to quickly pull in the two new cars... one an '05 Mustang (mine) and one an '05 BMW (theirs). Shortly thereafter, one of the T-6's returned... could not get in to ENW, made room in the 'garage' to pull in the T-6, too. Nasty wx that evening.... visibility going home was non-existent.

EasyJet is a European airline, so probably not.

A couple years back, an Air Transat L-1011 was quietly flying over France (I think), when they ran into some serious hail. They landed the plane with no troubles, but the poor thing had to be left there, it was damaged without repairs.

They congratulated the crew on bringing her down without any further arm.
