Can anyone ID the aircraft this military A-65 came off of.

Sat Jun 09, 2012 7:49 pm

I have a military A-65 engine serial numbers 1383428 42-156989, it came with an L-3 project but I cannot ID the aircraft type that it was on. Based on the unique exhaust system I know it was not an L-3 or L-4 and think it may have been on an L-2. Thanks for your help. The A-65 that was on my L-4 when it left the factory carried serial #s 2160528 and 43-17445.

Have you tried CONTINENTAL archives? they may still have the record of which manufacturer it was shipped to based on s/n.

That exhaust is Taylorcraft B model (side by sides). Taylorcraft exhaust is a real PITA as it requires loosening the engine mount to remove it. Looks like the engine mount is Taylorcraft as well. I believe the exhaust Taylorcraft put on the L-2 was different...
