Civilian Martin B-26 Marauders

Martin B-26 Folks:

Found this civilian Martin B-26 Mauder in Wix sometimes ago. The place Shelby School of Aeronautics, WhiteHaven, TN near Memphis. Poss c. 1950s.

Anyone has more details of this bare metal scheme B-26 & AAF S/N?? Anyone that knows its final destination?? Pictures & other angles will be appreciated

Well, it's one of the early short-wing Marauders..a B-26A or just plain B-26. Beyond that there's not much to go on. It doesn't have an N-number, and if it was being used as an instructional aid it was probably never given a civilian registration.

Ive been looking into this from the time it was posted but so far no additional information.
Airframe does sport the stepped, twin 50 mount tail position.

Tks for the info/data on the instructional frame bare metal B-26.

Perhaps you may help me with the sample below:

The original owner was WhiteHead Air Service of Charlotte, NC c. 1948. Reg 1500M. At one time it also belonged to Mr. Robert Uricho a WW II pilot who lived in the Miami area c. 1950s.

This elusive/fascinating flying machine made a few trips S. of the border. Toncontin airport in Honduras to be exact c. 1949. It is possible that the picture shown was taken in the Miami area when Reg as N1502 AAF 42-107640. Nicknamed "Bonnie" One of its pilots was a unid TACA pilot c. 1949-1950. It was also probably a regular visitor of S. Florida or Houston Texas c. 1948-1949.

If you know more details or have other angles of Martin B-26 "Bonnie" it will be appreciated.

Registration for Whiteheads N1500M JM-1 was cancelled in 9/1949.
The registration for B-26C N1502 was issued to the Continental Can Co. (which had 3 B-26's) on 6/1953 and cancelled 7/59. Though this will not reflect when the airframe was lost or scrapped it is a start. I do not know of any of the 3 Continental Can B-26's surviving. There are several referances to N1502 being lost in Ohio.

Tks for the info/data. As a Navy JM-1 it also appears as a Buno 66595 & later on after the sale at RFC c. 1948 as N66595 among others.

Could the short wings from an early B-26 be bolted right on to a later model fuselage?

In the case of the first pic I was looking at the tail rather than the wings. The tail is definitely the early short version. When the wing area was increased, they made the tail taller as well.

B-26 Marauder Folks:

"Bonnie" came from the surplus of Navy aircraft c, 1948-1949. They used to be either bright orange or bright yellow or simply metal schemes with small Buno on the tails. C. 1948 wa also Reg as NL1500M.

There was an article at one time on Wix about these interesting aircraft schemes. If anyone has some NAVY shots of the version JM-1 plz post them.

That's Tallichet's Marauder behind the fence at his old Chino location. The aircraft is now with Kermit Weeks in Florida.

That's a picture you have stolen from somebody here on wix because its been posted here before. It's not unknown, it is Tallichet's old Marauder and now belongs to Kermit Weeks and was identified as such, right here where you stole it from.

It's not stolen, he said he found it on the web. Last I heard Wix was on the web as well.

Believe it or not, a lot of people copy pics from the web without making the notation of what website they were found on. It may not be a good practice but it is a very common occurance.

It would only be "stolen" if he said it was his pic.

I do research for another hobby of mine. I have found my work, verbatim, on other peoples websites. I don't get upset unless they claim it as their own research. Then I get mad as heck.

Thanks Zorro. That picture brings back memories. Guys like BDK and I saw it like that for years, usually it was inside but when other projects like flyers annuals and stuff needed more room in the hangar they'd pull it out.
I steal those pics off of the internet all of the time, usually from Google images. It's a real hackers job, big money in it too!
