B-17C, US 19th BG, Del Monte Field, Philippines, 1941

Afternoon Gentlemen,

I finished this a while back but I figured I'd share with ALL here...

Not too many B-17C's made it into combat service except for the handful in the Philippines with the U.S.A.A.C., some with the R.A.F and R.N.. 35 were sent to Clark Field on Luzon and Del Monte Field on Mindanao, only one survived from Clark Field and 13 from Del Monte. They combined and flew to a field near Darwin, Australia. They proceeded to commence with shipping attacks on the Japanese which they did to little effect in early 1942.

So without further adue here she is...

Nice job..I really like those "shark tail" Forts, and the Academy kit is quite nice.

Just a couple of accuracy critiques: your model has the B-17B "blister" style gun emplacements for the waist, belly, and radio room guns. B-17Cs and D had the flush waist windows and radio hatch, and the "bathtub" belly gun (and I believe most Bs that survived long enough had them retrofitted.) I believe all the correct bits are included in the kit, so if you feel like it they shouldn't be too much trouble to switch out. Also, the vents on the upper wings are not exhausts, they're hot air vents for the turbosuperchargers..nothing comes out of them but clean air, which actually deflects oil and grime from the engines around the vents.

I hope I'm not being too critical..at least you finished yours. I've been working on an RAF B-17C off and on for over ten years and still have finished it! :drink3:

And, repaint the leading edge deicer boots as rubber doesn't chip.

Well, these photos are old... I've rectified the de-icing boots but the blisters unfortunately will have to remain. I've LONG since thrown away the left overs... I've learned since to hang on to those type of things. :D lol I built this kit back early in my model building days when I "built them to build them and I don't need the extra parts" mentality was in vogue. :D lol

I retain all my extra usable parts now though. ;)

Hehe...I don't think I've thrown out a model part in decades. I've got several boxes of spare bits and pieces..most are probably useless, but there's always the chance the one little forgotten bit will save a project.
