FW190 White One to Collings Foundation for restoration

Sat Jul 14, 2012 10:44 am

I understand that the FW 190 White One restoration that was happening in Kissimmee has moved to American Aero for restoration to flight for the Colling's Foundation.

It's awesome that the Collins foundation is expanding, is there any plans to consolidate the collection while not on tour.

It's about time Collings add the coolest warbird on the planet to their collection: A Fouga! pop1

Might it be that there is a second Fw 190, longnose D-9 with Jumo 213 in the (hopefully not to) distant future as well? That would be awesome..... (well, at least White One Foundation, Mark Timken, had 2 engines and some parts for it....)
Anyway, I hope to see the Fw 190 F-8 in the air in a few years with Collings.

I wouldn't consider a genuine Fw190 or Me109 practical for the Collings Foundation to tour with. I believe the DB motor is only good for 100 hours and it's a safe guess that the BMW would be delicate to operate as well. (Flying Heritage is only flying their Fw190 one day this year, and they have stated that the BMW is temperamental.) Unless they move them around on trucks, both would be expensive to operate and accumulate wear and tear. So the other option is to leave both aircraft at one location.

It's great to see the Collings Foundation expanding and adding aircraft to the collection recently. The addition of the Skyraider, F-100, Me 262 and now the FW 190, not to mention the return of the A-36 to flight status, are all outstanding. Can't wait to see what else they have planned for the future! B-29 maybe?

Not to hijack the thread, but did the Draken acquisition ever happen? Seems like I remember hearing that one fell through.

In time, all the information will be released...I can say its not "Doc"...most is known if you know where to look. The Fw-190 will be a very significant addition to the collection, as well as other aquisitions. As for Paul Allen's FW, I saw it fly both days we were at Paine Field...it flies quite a bit. The CF maintains a balance of tour aircraft, fixed base aircraft and aircraft that are dedicated to doing airshows....or all of the above.
