Unidentified "bomb drop" panel

A friend of mine has sent me some pictures of a "bomb drop" panel and asked me to identify the aircraft it came of. I must admit having no clue what - so - ever about what it came out of. It was found on a beach in the west part of Iceland about 5-7 years ago.
By looking at it, I thought it was of British manufacture, but the guys over on the FlyPast forum think it American. What do you think?

This is the underside of the thing. There are some numbers there reading the first digit is not clear, but is probably a 4, so the number is: 447599-G (there might be another letter after the G, but it is not readable). Inspection stamp E within a circle.

Its a Mark 29 bomb release handle assy that was a standard Navy part and was used on different aircraft with wing bomb racks. In other words it was not specific to one particular aircraft.

I will try to find some cockpit shots showing its install.

There was another quadrant style release assy that was used in the SBD and other aircraft. It was also a standard BuOrd part.

The part number on the side is the BuOrd drawing number. See the photo from the Ord catalog below

Now I know WHAT it is. All I have to do now is to go through Navy losses in the area, looking for aircraft with underwing bomb racks! I´ll report back if I find anything remotely likely.
