and you can also use Photoshop LE. It's an older program that I purchased 4 years ago for about $70. Just did a quick search on Ebay and saw several copies for under $15. I had used it for a few years and it does most things that Photoshop will do for a fraction of the cost

bearfan 1, has that Mustang in the photo with the P40E been modified by you? Or did it actually fly in those colours at (I assume it is) Wanaka? I love what you did with the P40 photos.
Here's an attempt by me which I just threw together, inspired by the thread. I don't have PhotoShop, though I have used it. I have Paint Shop Pro 7 which was free, and does almost as much. It's the Pioneer Aero Tiger Moth at Ardmore, NZ, (actually taken in colour in 2003)
And here is a little reverse engneering I did earlier. I found this fascinating Hudson photo in the collection of a late RNZAF mechanic, Jim Ross. The nose art intrigued me so i decided to recreate it in colour. I used a photo of a Hudson at Temora, Australia, that I found on the net, and recoloured it (Hudson was olive drab and grey, but I put it into RNZAF colours and added Chips, who is coloured up and had the missing bits guessed)
Here's the original photo, in poor condition
And here's the result. Looks a little like a model but it's a real Hudson.
For the record here's another I did, based on the same Temora photo, depicting Hudson NZ2078 with it's famous Snifter dog nose art

Cadillac_of_the_Sky, nice job on clearing out that mob. Those kinds of projects are often tedious but worth it in the end.

As to the Mustang in the background of the first photo, it has not been modified. Those first two photos are untouched, the first was taken by my Dad at Hamilton, Ontario in 1985. The second was at Wanaka in 2002 and I'm not sure who took that shot.
I honestly don't fully recall that paintjob on the Mustang. I was about 12-13 when the photo was taken and have only vague memories of that particular plane. I'll see if there's a slide showing the scheme a bit more completely. Looking at it now, I find it interesting that it has what appear to be occupation stripes on the fuselage and wings...
That one was pretty gaudy, wasn't it? One I did like was the Miller Draken, although that was a real scheme if I recall.
Scott, I like that Corsair image with the tags... the lettering looks much-more-better than mine. Did you find a font to use for that and if so what was it? I'm still having no luck finding a decent font for that kind of thing. I've considered combining several fonts and also making my own, but I'm lazy... LOL

I used Comic Sans which after much searching, seemed to be the closest.

Scott, I believe I used the same font on the one that I tried. The U.S. Army Signal Corp attempt.

I never clicked that it was too totally different P40's, very clever.
On the other hand the four Avro 626's in the last photo I posted are all the same plane, all from slides taken by my late Dad in 1985.
