The most common way is for people to climb up the bow rope and get themselves up on the nose. From there they walk along the upper fuselage to either the wings or if they are careful and well balanced they can shimmy to the tail. There have been times guys once on top, will open the apu hatch(mid wing/fuselage) and climb in and walk to the back and open the access doors on the tail and get on that way.

The second bomber is currently being paint stripped in anticipation of a new colour. The engines and all flight controls have been removed for the new paint job.

Hope they catch the worthless cretins that did it and give them a good going through in the judicial system, followed by a hefty bill for the damage.

I visited the Coulson Tanker Base on last Tuesday 14th. The “Hawaii Mars” made a short test flight and they told me this was the first flight after two weeks on ground to make sure the plane is ready when called. They also told me the “Philipine Mars” was sold to a museum and is currently prepared for new paint.

Many thanks to the crew at Coulson to allowing me access to do these pictures. Find more of my pictures via the following link:

Thanks for the pics!

Didn't someone say the Philippine Mars was going to the Martin museum? Or is that my faulty memory?

Also, anyone know what the paint job is going to be? I presume it'll be the 50s Navy overall blue, but just curious if anyone knows for sure.

SEVERAL years ago there were plans for the Martin Museum in Maryland to acquire one of the Mars aircraft, but it seemed like that fell through or was put on the back burner when Coulson decided to keep operating the aircraft as fire bombers rather than retire them.

Does this mean that Coulson will keep only ONE of the Mars aircraft for fire work and that the other one is going to go to a museum?

If this is the case, I hope maybe the Philippine Mars will be painted in the 1950's dark blue and Navy markings and be sent to the Martin Museum. And if that is the case, I hope it will be prepared for flight and make a ferry flight to the east coast for a grand entrance at the old seaplane ramps at Middle River, MD before going into the museum. I would be there for that for sure.

EDIT: Found a news story regarding this and started a New Thread. :)
