And an L-5:

Nice looking Spitfire!

Seems odd they would have a Draaken on display as well.

Not odd that they have Scott's new favorite airplane on display though:

A very nice museum indeed - I visited in 2003. The real gems being the ex-Berlin Museum fuselages and my own personal favourite, the sole surviving PZL P.11c from the same source. And an ex-Ernst Udet Curtiss Hawk fuselage and the ex-world speed record Me209.

They also have a restored Bf109 belonging to a local group that is displayed there from time to time.

They have some other major components (tail, etc) of the P-39 from what I remember.

As well as the Draken, thay have an ex-Vietnam F-5 there as well.

Lots of MiGs, too!

Is this a German plane and if so why does it have the Olympics rings on the side?

System-o-D...It is the remains of one of 2 Curtiss Hawk II's purchased
for WWI surviving German ace , Ernst Udet by Hermann Goering. Udet
was a fan of the Hawk II and was after Goering to purchase some for the
Luftwaffe in the early 30's. Goering eventually relented and purchased 2
examples, which were essentially for Udet's private use. The trade-off
was, Udet would join the Nazi party, thereby lending his name and stature
as a hero to the Party. He became a propaganda tool, basically. Udet was
quite a celebrity-flier post-WWI known for very skillful aerobatic displays
known worldwide. The Hawk II's were no exception to his legend.

In 1936 the Olympics were hosted in Berlin, and the Nazis never missing
an advertising edge made full use of this fact at every possible chance.
Udet flying the Hawk's emblazoned with the Olympic rings continued in
his role of advertiser to the Nazi's. Udet, in later years prior to his suicide
lamented that he had,"sold his soul to Goering for the Hawks".

System-o-D, Udet is a fascinating history in his own right and is well worth
taking the time to dig-up and aquaint yourself.

Going by the museums description, the wing and empannage are from a
P-39Q.

I can't answer why these American aircraft are at Krakow, but I suspect
some horsetradin' and regional artifact collecting is at the root of it all.

I was there in 1996 and a fascinating museum. The WW1 aircraft are originals from the destroyed Berlin Air Museum, (although some have lost their wings) which they have been slowly restoring. DTM Berlin is looking to trade for some of them and negotiations have been ongoing for some time.

I'd place a small wager on Berlins affections for the 209 as well as Udet's
Hawk, among others.

From what I am told, they have more of an interest in the WW1 aircraft.

Considering the connection the Me209 and Hawk II share with the "political
statement" they made at one time, maybe it's not PC for DTM Berlin to
publicly want them. But they've got to be on someones mind there. Udet's
bird as a relic of Germany's 2nd highest WWI ace and the Me 209 record-
breaker as an example of German engineering excellence....HAS to be
a burr-under-someones-saddle seen residing elsewhere. The WWI birds
not sharing the stigma of the other 2, are far easier to negotiate for.
Just the way I'd view the situation if I was in there shoes, a personal
opinion...
