I have a friend who went the past few weeks to work on DOC. I think I'll see him at the airport today. If I see him I will ask for a update.

WOW! Awesome pictures! Thanks for getting them. What an enormous project. I hope somebody writes a book on the restoration when it's all done. I always thought a book would be written on the Enola Gay's restoration since it was the largest project ever done by the Garber facility but I haven't seen one yet..... Thanks again!

That's got to be the most ambitious private warbird project I've ever laid eyes on. What an overwhelming amount of detail! About the only other project I can think of that rivals it has got to be the LSFM's PB4Y-2. Can't wait to see those two side by side onthe flight line. 8)

Um...how do I put this...

He wasn't supposed to take pictures...it's illegal.

That said...

They've done a lot on it.
I remember going to see it for the first time...Mr. Ziegler said that Fifi was just an empty shell compared to Doc. Doc has a lot of originality in it, including armor plating, orginal radios, etc. The only thing's that won't be original (IIRC) are the deicer boots, the turbochargers, and the glass.

I'm a bit unhappy I can't be there to work on it though.

Eureka181, do you know what the "copper appearing" material on the
upper part of the (rear spar?) below the tunnel is for? Is it a lighting
effect or is it copper sheet? What would be it's function?

EDIT..or maybe Wolverine knows..he's worked on Doc..

That is aluminum skin. The lighting makes it look odd.

My friend said something about illegal. Well.. its not like he took pictures of a top secret UFO or something.

If we are on the topic of originality, you say that everything exept deicer boots, turbochargers, and glass is original. That is not exactly true, what about replaced aluminum skin, and new fuel bladders, and rebuilt spar parts, etc.

No warbird that is still flying is 100% original, down to every nut and bolt, WW2 built parts.

That is a reflection from the "mercury vapor lights" in the hangar. They have a reddish yellow cast to them.

Very impressive rebuild and it must take a great effort by volunteers just to get to this point.

I'm getting a "vibe" from other posts that FIFI is no longer an "empty shell". Any updates on it's current status?

There was another thread (on Doc) recently in which I posted why it was illegal. I don't wanna keep repeating myself...go use the search feature. I just hope they get a new hangar...
