I think this Sabre belongs or belonged to Rich Sugden who owns the FJ-4B Fury.

I remember seeing it fly at Oshkosh at the 2010 show. Nice looking Sabre.

Far from my favorite paint scheme for an F-86 either. At least it is authentic, since apparently the Air Force did test this type of scheme on an F-86F back somewhere in the 1955 to 1957 time period.

Idaho Sabre....

Back in 1980 at a Boise junkyard, there was an ex-ID ANG F-86D/L looking much the worse for wear, but most of it was there.
Anyone know more?

JohnB,

Here is a snapshot I took in the summer of 1972 with a cheap camera. The F-86D-55 (later to become L model) 53-0622, was later towed to an auto salvage yard east of the airport.

Nice to see a "Super Sabre", even in a butt-ugly paint scheme...

This particular F-86 scheme was always popular with the model builders as well. I too think it's butt ugly and really detracts from the very classy shape of the Sabre but I surmise that its uniqueness makes it more popular than it might otherwise be. Having said all that I will add that the paint job would detract very little of the enjoyment I would derive from watching it perform!

Any idea what the sale price would be?

I promise that the first thing we will do is have a strip and polish party.....*

Frankly, I prefer any authentic color scheme to any "rich dentist" überchromed "fun" funky "it's my money" finish with, of course, the syndical sharkmouth and the usual badly designed modern pin-up named after the wife !

Amen! :drink3:
Nose art that is done in a style that doesn't reflect the era of the airplane is a pet peeve of mine. How many airplanes out there have airbrushed nose art? How many would you find in the 40s and 50s painted like that in service?

Lowell
Thanks for the photo.
Who did it end up staying in Boise, was it a display ac at one time?

At the same time in the early 80s, I ws told of a Invader on display at Julia Davis Park in Boise that was burnt by vandals. IIRC, some of that ac was at the same wreccking yard.
