Civil N3N on floats?

Has anyone operated an N3N on the traditional main and outrigger float set up? Aside from the Grumman Duck has anyone operated a main and outrigger float type aircraft since the N3Ns were retired?

Wasnt there someone at the Thunder Over Michigan show a few years back with a yellow N3N that had conventional gear but with floats displayed with it?? It was displayed close to the nose of the B-52. Anyone remember that?

Hi John,

Bill Thompson of Pender Harbour, BC still operates his N3N-3 on a single pontoon setup. It's a nice looking bird!

There is an N3N on floats in Hood River, OR and also at Creve Coeur, MO. Not sure when they last flew. But I would say they are flyable.

John.....................Yes.

Elroy................Yes but that airplane has never been on floats with the owner. There are a few of us that have a set (we have the center) but have never gotten our feet wet.

C170 dan...............Last I knew the one in Hood River was still on floats and so is the one in BC. But the one in Creve Coeur has been put back on its gear. This airplane has been on floats for as long as I can remember and owned by two dentists. The thread just a couple of days ago on the gear with 741 on the side is that airplane.

Hi guys, and gals. I happened to come across the discussion about the N3N on floats, We are the individuals with the N3N-3 with the float display if anyone wants information on the set up, we are in fact in the process of setting the fuse atop the floats as we speak. Yes we were at Thunder for the past 3 years now. Along with Training Command in Oshkosh.

I used to hang out at Creve Coeur a lot more, and got to fly 741 once (on wheels) thanks to Tom Ahlers who was one of the owners at the time, around 1988. I remember seeing color film of it on the float, with Tom water skiing behind it, until just before it lifted off, when he had a spectacular wipe-out. Also pretty sure the film showed him doing aileron rolls while in the seaplane configuration.
