Hello,

How do I go about obtaining the history of a particular aircraft that served with NASA?

The FAA told me they don't keep records and I'm sure the military don't so who would?

I tried e-mailing NASA direct but no reply (not surprisingly) came back via their official site.

The FAA does maintain records, but they will be limited to changes of ownership and copies of all of the 337(major repair & alteration) forms filed. That could be useful, assuming NASA actually filed 337's in the first place.

To look at the specific history of any NASA aircraft you must first ascertain who the aircraft originally belonged to. Once you've done that and have the aircraft serial or BuNo you simply follow the steps normally used to get the aircraft history from that entity.

A USAF aircraft would go through the office at Maxwell AFB, the Navy would be the NHC office.

Naval aircraft history cards are also available from NASM. A simple e-mail, it's free and usually only takes a couple of weeks.

Edit; I see NASM lists Air Force serial numbers as well. In the past I was only able to get Navy aircraft history cards.
