Discovery Saturday -- Cuban Missile Crisis -- 50th Anniv

On Sat., Oct 20, the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation will
present a program on the 50 anniv. Of the Cuban Missile
Crisis. Presenting will be Mr Ken Jack, author of the recently
released title "Blue Moon Over Cuba. The main focus is the
pivotal role of VFP-62 in obtaining hi-res imagery of the in-
stallation of Soviet missiles. Also presenting will be CAPT
Jim Curry who flew missions over Cuba. It starts at 1000,
will run about an hour, and is free. The venue will be
Hangar Bay One at NNAM in P'cola. Signed copies of the
book will be available.

I live in WA state and my understanding is that during the Cuban missile crisis, people in these parts had other issues to worry about as the largest storm recorded to hit the West coast had rolled through the week before: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbus_Day_Storm_of_1962 I've asked folks around here what they recalled about the whole Cuba thing, most had the same reaction, along the lines of, "Cuba? Son, I was either too busy cutting up all the trees that fell on the property or wondering when the power would come back on!"
My parents lived in central Florida at the time, so obviously they were worried sick.

I missed most of the crisis as I was on R&R in Japan, when I got back to Korea, it was just about over.
