Morning Mission (P-51 sketch)

Tue Nov 29, 2005 12:29 pm

Did this last night while watching the Colts go 11-0.

This is a small "refined thumbnail" of my upcoming Morning Mission, showing Kidd Hofer taxiing at Debden prior to takeoff. Photos and film taken at Debden show a lot of marshalling for takeoff and taxiing to and fro their dispersals on the grass. I wanted to show the "transition" as Hofer left the peri-track.

The final canvas will be 18 x 24. I didn't measure the proportions before marking the borders of this little sketch ... the final 18 x 24 canvas will have a bit less expanse in the vertical. I mainly wanted to locate the horizontal borders here.

After I finish the aircraft outline in detail, I'll do a larger pencil study, then it's on to the final canvas. First, though, I've got other projects nipping at my heels.

I would be tempted to frame what you have here! I am not an artist, so I don't know what kind of weight this welll carry, but GOOD JOB!

Much appreciated! I actually would frame this little sketch (a nice professional frame job would set it off very nicely), but I want to keep my sketchbook intact. Those books will be fun to look through years from now.

I will be doing a larger, more detailed pencil study of this scene ... that one will be framed - or sold off first.
