Anyone know the ID know the ID of the Neptune on display at the Greenwood Military Aviation Musuem in Nova Scotia?

Hi Scott, this particular aircraft is painted in the markings of RCAF s/n 24101, although I am not certain that this is the actual number unfortunately, as she just went through a re-paint. You could probably contact someone at the museum here...

I am not sure what the corresponding BuNo. would be for this aircraft if that's what you were after. The canadians had 25 P2V-7's, sn 24101 - 24125 if that helps any.
Cheers,
Richard

HI Scott , That Neptune, is not even Canadian, it was imported in the late 70,s from the US, and given a Canadian paint scheme.

I posted this question on an email list. Here is the response with the ID...
It's EP-2H 147969. It was delivered to Greenwood on 27 August 1980 from
VC-8 at NAS Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. It was initially painted as
"24117" in a grey/white scheme and an aircraft record card was created
for it as such. It was later painted overall dark sea blue and
reserialled as "24101", but the card was not amended.

Another follow-up...
> A record card!?!? Was it then officially considered part of the
inventory?

> Thanks Jeff. I figured you would answer this one.
They usually create an aircraft record card for display aircraft, even
the ones not on the CAF inventory. I think it may be to cover themselves
for the day when someone asks "who owns that thing on my base" and they
have the card as a reference to its origins.
I'm not surprised it wasn't updated when the aircraft was repainted and
the serial was changed. I doubt anyone involved in that work knew there
was a card in Ottawa that could be updated.

It seems kinda sad that a Canadian museum had to get a US aircraft when there are still some CAF survivors out there. Isn't there one at Hawkins & Powers? H&P also have some genuine RCAF C-119's as well. Seems a perfect opportinity to address that missing link in the national collection. Have you mentioned this to them Mike?

Richard

Richard, When the base got the neptune , there wasn,t a museun there, it was given to them as a gate guard, then a museum was formed some years later, and it and the Lancaster and Argus were taken under there wing. Also it was free..... And their still displayed outside, i think no museum should do..

I agree, it would be nice if they all came inside. You know, I can't think of one Argus, or Neptune for that matter, which is displayed indoors. What other aircraft does the museum have? I couldn't quite tell from the website what they actually had, and what simply served at the base.

Richard

Thanks for the news helinut. I did see that they were hoping to recover a Bolingbrooke from somewhere. Do you have any further details on this... is it from a crash, or somewhere else. Any pictures?
Many thanks, Richard

No worse than having a CAF F-101 sitting on a pole here in the republic when there were still USAF/MeANG F-101s still in the BoneYard if I am not mistaken. Rob?!
